About SisterFund

SisterFund creates a participatory and meaningful experience in which African American women of all ages and careers can come together to support each other and the community they love. By pooling their resources, members can increase the impact of their giving.

Just as the tradition of community quilting joined modest pieces of cloth to create something strong, beautiful blankets of art and the tradition of hair braiding created strong, beautiful styles of pride, SisterFund provides an opportunity for individuals to join others through collective, charitable giving.

SisterFund seeks to invest in nonprofits and community-based organizations helping to pave a positive future for African American women and girls through gains in education, workforce and leadership development.

Our History

In 2013, several committed and passionate Richmonders began discussing the need for a collective giving network among African American women in our community.

These influential community leaders, including Veronica Fleming, The Honorable Cynthia Newbille, Greta J. Harris, Evette T. Roots, The Honorable Ellen F. Robertson, and The Honorable Delores McQuinn, established a partnership with The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia to form SisterFund in 2015. The connections and business acumen of our founders, along with our partnership with the Community Foundation, set the stage to bring collective giving to life.

SisterFund continues to operate on the same principles of the founders. in 2016 they awarded their first grant to The Children's Home Society of Virginia for $20,000.
